So dainty

A tiny viola that has somehow survived in the corner of Miss P's new favourite napping spot. The blue whiskers look as though they've been delicately painted on with the tiniest of watercolour brushes.

A big hello to those who have popped over from A sight of the morning. Thank you Alice. And thanks to the recent winds, I spent this afternoon making more apple loaf cake with the apples too battered and bruised to be stored. I was going to have a stab at the apple cake recipe in Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's cake book but was lacking in the store cupboard department. So, one large loaf cake for us and two smaller ones to give to our neighbours. It's funny - it's the first time I've baked for neighbours and I'm slightly nervous. They have no idea that a random bake is heading in their direction, and it's driven in part by the conversations we've had about how much they miss the woman who used to live in our cottage. I imagine she probably shared her windfalls, and certainly baked a good cake. I hope it doesn't come across as odd.

  1. I would be over the moon if a neighbour popped round with a home made cake - I think we'd be friends for life! Sadly I would settle for a neighbour who'd give our balls back when they go over the fence right now!
