Why hello! Gosh, it's been a while, hasn't it? It's been go, go, go recently. I'm afraid I'm just popping by to say hello. Hope you're all well. Booties have been finished, the leaves have been raked, Mr M returned, hearty wintry food has been eaten, the heating has been turned up a notch and I've started my new job. Naturally, I went down with the dreaded commuter cold on day 4 - I'd like to thank the two middle aged suits I was sandwiched between on the train who frankly should know better than to cough without using their hand. As a result I haven't had much of a voice since Monday - it's all rather tedious.
But I'm not going to complain.
It's great to be back in Central London. I'm loving my commute - nipping across Hungerford Bridge to Embankment, laughing in wonderment at the queues for Boris bikes - and planning to visit the National Gallery once a week. This week I discovered The Terrace at Vasouy by Edouard Vuillard - beautiful large canvases, full of dreamy strokes, the haze of a hot Summer day - incredible to think that it was cut in half to create two paintings 34 years later. I wonder if they ate Port Salut and slightly dry Madeleines. They've also commissioned Clive Head to produce three new paintings to coincide with the Canaletto exhibition - the detail is absolutely exquisite. Mrs F took me to the wonderfully eccentric, and oh so British, Cafe in the Crypt under St Martin in the Fields for lunch - I can't wait to go back, even if it's just for the complimentary jugs of water and ice.
Beautiful green knitting and you manage to make London commuting sound wonderful!
ReplyDeleteThe National Gallery in a lunch break - just one of the many things I love about London. Glad you're enjoying it!
ReplyDeleteSounds like you're having a fab time back in London. But hope you're feeling better. I lost my voice too this week!
