Devonshire blue

There is a flower stall by Embankment tube station that never fails to delight. They often have reasonably priced seasonal blooms. I couldn't resist these Devon Cornflowers on Friday and merrily skipped homeward bound along Hungerford Bridge carrying my precious cargo. I now have two vases crammed with green and blue looking rather magnificent on our new (extending!) dining table. Happy days.

  4. I LOVE cornflowers, sometimes I know them as Bachelor's Buttons. My bridesmaids carried them. If I can find them today, I always buy extra to mix in with herbs in butter, just pluck the little florets, so pretty!

  5. That flower stall has been at Embankment station for ever, well at least since 1964 when the station was called, Charing Cross. At that time it was the nearest station to the mainline station and Craven Street would be full of people struggling up the slight incline with their luggage. No wheely cases then.

But, the flowers were always of good quality, I used to buy some often on my way home from work for my mother.
