Open gardens

We spied a tiny little sign advertising an open garden in Hersham the other week. A couple of days later there was bunting. We spent the brief car journey discussing how big the garden might be. Never in our wildest dreams did we think it would be 7.5 acres. It just went on and on, wild meadow, sculptures, ponds, paddock, long borders, mature trees - it really was magical.

Even more so when we discovered that it had been created and maintained by the couple who bought the house back in the 1970s. The entrance fee included a cup of tea and a slice of cake, so after following the garden trail we settled ourselves down by the long border to enjoy some homemade bakes and the view.

Such a lovely way to spend a couple of hours on a Sunday afternoon.
