My parents used to have huge peony bushes with flowers the colour of claret and the size of a saucer. Flower heads packed tight with hundreds of delicate, almost velvety petals. They've been a firm favourite of mine ever since. We've tried to grow them in our shady plot but have only managed leaves not petals. So, I must be content with buying mine - a delicate pink - and enjoy watching it unfurl from its tight buds a little more each day.
I agree, peonies are very pretty. Enjoy! x
ReplyDeleteOh I love peonies. I used to have three bushes(?) of them in my old house and yet to have them here - although not seen many around here so I wonder if they grow OK...

Peonies are my favourite flowers- we've never had anywhere to plant them, so wherever I lived, I was a regular at the local botanic gardens during May and June!
ReplyDeleteI used to have big pink peony bush outside my front door in Massachusetts. I still miss it. Must see what we can do about growing one on the allotment!
