Reclaimed ridge tiles

A little like the reclaimed bricks, there is something quite wonderful about having the original ridge tiles and being able to repurpose them. These were taken from the main house when the chimney came down, and will be used when we finally get to the workshop and garage. You do find yourself having to make odd decisions, but often the gut feel is the right one. When the ridge tiles were replaced, we were given the choice of having a light or dark mortar, with the recommendation being the former. We pushed for the latter and are so pleased that we did - it would have taken an age to weather, so opting for dark mortar meant that the work instantly blended in. Happy days.

  1. I'm glad that you picked the dark mortar. When my parents were having their extension built the pesky builders used a light mortar without asking first and 15 years later it still doesn't look right. I can still hear Mum saying "If I wanted to live in a new build I would have moved to one!" x
